What is English as a New Language?

The English as a New Language (ENL) program at Irvington is designed to teach English Language Learners (ELLs) social and academic language skills as well as aspects of the English language necessary to succeed in an academic environment. It involves teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing at appropriate developmental and proficiency levels with only  supplemental use of the native language. All instruction is aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards and grade level curricula.
